The fuel passes through the water separator which removes the water and large particulate contaminants. Then, the fuel with only entrained air\/vapor and tiny particulate contaminants remaining, enters the fuel pump. Under positive pressure flow, the fuel passes through the fuel filter and the remaining particulate contaminants are caught and contained, the entrained air\/vapor is also separated and returned to the tank. The clean fuel is now free of contaminants and water and flows at the proper pressures up to your engine.
